About Purina
Purina is the pet-care arm of Nestlé, formally organized as Nestlé Purina PetCare and headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri. The company traces back to 1894, when William H. Danforth founded the business that became Ralston Purina, and took its current form in December 2001 when Nestlé merged its own Friskies PetCare business with Ralston Purina. That merger brought brands including Friskies, Pro Plan, Fancy Feast, DentaLife and Tidy Cats under one roof, and the company still runs its own U.S. manufacturing plants and an in-house team of roughly 400 veterinarians, nutritionists and food scientists across its formulas.
The treat lines featured on our site sit on opposite ends of the format spectrum. Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets Dental Bites carries a VOHC seal accepted for both plaque and tartar reduction, awarded in 2019, and Purina DentaLife holds a separate VOHC tartar-reduction seal dating to 2016 -- both independent, third-party credentials rather than claims Purina prints on its own packaging. Friskies, meanwhile, dates to a cat food line Nestlé's Carnation predecessor introduced in the 1950s that was the first dry pet food built specifically for cats, and its newer Lil' Soups broth toppers extend that value-tier lineup into the lickable/topper format. The DentaLife and Friskies lines are both covered regularly by retail brand pages and pet-care review sites.

Why we recognized Purina
The House of Mittens Top Brand recognition isn't paid for and can't be applied for. We award it to the brands whose products consistently stand out in our vet-reviewed category guides. Purina earned it on the strength of the products below, evaluated the same way every product on this site is: assessed against feline-health criteria, used with real cats, and judged on merit.
Purina products we rated highly
Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets Dental Bites Cat Treats, 1.8 oz Pouch (Pack of 2)
The only cat dental treat we found sold on Amazon US that holds VOHC acceptance for both plaque and tartar reduction, the strongest independent dental credential in our testing pool. It comes out of Purina's veterinary line, and the seal was awarded in 2019, making it the most recently reviewed VOHC cat treat we cover. The tradeoff is small pouches at 1.8 ounces each, so a daily routine means repurchasing often, and Purina does not publish a per-treat calorie figure on the listing.

Purina DentaLife Cat Dental Treats, Savory Salmon Flavor, 19 oz
VOHC accepted for tartar reduction since 2016, and the 19 oz resealable pouch is the largest bag in our dental-treats lineup, useful for running a daily routine across several cats without reordering constantly. The porous, crunchy structure is built to collapse around the tooth on contact rather than crumble away from it, and the formula adds calcium, taurine and probiotics on top of the abrasive mechanism. The listing doesn't publish a full ingredient panel, and piece size runs large for small mouths and kittens.

Purina Friskies Lil Soups Topper Variety Pack, 30 Count, 1.2 oz Cups
A broth-style cup format rather than a tube, at 1.2 ounces it holds more than double the volume of a standard half-ounce lickable treat and delivers the most water per serving in our lickable-treats lineup. The peel-back cup can be poured over food or set down as a dish, which makes it the easiest format for a cat that won't take a treat from a hand. It isn't practically resealable once opened, no calorie figure is published, and carrageenan status isn't stated on the listing.
