About PureBites

PureBites is a privately held, Canadian-owned pet treat company, in business since 2005 with its worldwide head office in Vaudreuil-Dorion, Quebec, Canada. The brand introduced its first product in 2006, a single-ingredient freeze-dried raw beef liver treat, followed soon after by its freeze-dried chicken breast treat. PureBites describes its founding idea as asking pet parents to turn the bag around and read the ingredient panel, at a time when most treats on pet store shelves carried artificial ingredients and preservatives.

For its freeze-dried treats, food, and toppers, PureBites sources its proteins as human grade, mainly from the USA, and freeze dries them in its own Texas kitchen before shipping them to Canada for packaging. The line has grown from that first single-ingredient treat into a wider range: freeze-dried treats and food for cats and dogs, functional treats with an added nutrient, air-dried jerky and sprinkles, and wet mixers, patés, broths, and squeezables.

Why we recognized PureBites

The House of Mittens Top Brand recognition isn't paid for and can't be applied for. We award it to the brands whose products consistently stand out in our vet-reviewed category guides. PureBites earned it on the strength of the products below, evaluated the same way every product on this site is: assessed against feline-health criteria, used with real cats, and judged on merit.

PureBites products we rated highly

PureBites Chicken Single Ingredient Freeze Dried Cat Treats, 5.5 oz
Top Pick 2026

PureBites Chicken Single Ingredient Freeze Dried Cat Treats, 5.5 oz

The bag publishes a piece count, 430 treats, which lets an owner work out cost per repetition instead of guessing at it. The treat is a single ingredient, chicken breast, which makes it straightforward to fit into a diabetic cat's day, an allergy elimination trial, or any diet where every protein has to be accounted for. Buyers report the treat holds a cat's attention through a full session rather than just the first few reps, and the freeze-dried pieces snap into smaller fragments cleanly, so one treat can fund several repetitions.

What earned PureBites the recognition

  • PureBites' chicken breast cat treat lists chicken breast as its only ingredient, which keeps the panel short enough to fit a restricted, allergy, or diabetic diet.
  • The 5.5 oz bag states its piece count on the package, 430 treats, giving owners a way to calculate cost per repetition for a training routine rather than estimate it.
  • Buyers report the treat is high-value enough to hold a cat's attention across a full training session, not just the first few repetitions.
  • The freeze-dried format breaks cleanly into smaller fragments, letting one treat be split across multiple rewards.
  • The chicken breast used in the treat is listed by PureBites as human grade and sourced in the USA.
