About Dirty Labs
Dirty Labs was founded in January 2018 in Portland, Oregon, by chemist Dr. Pete He and David Watkins, a former Google product and manufacturing specialist. The two set out to build enzyme-based cleaning formulas as an alternative to conventional petrochemical cleaners, starting with a laundry detergent and expanding into dish and toilet-bowl cleaners, along with laundry accessories such as wool dryer balls and mesh wash bags.
The brand sells directly through its own site and has also expanded into Whole Foods Market locations across more than two dozen states. Its laundry line includes the Bio Enzyme Laundry Booster featured in our review: a scent-free powder additive meant to pair with a household's existing detergent rather than replace it, carrying EPA Safer Choice certification and, per the brand, a cold-water optimized bio-enzyme formula.

Why we recognized Dirty Labs
The House of Mittens Top Brand recognition isn't paid for and can't be applied for. We award it to the brands whose products consistently stand out in our vet-reviewed category guides. Dirty Labs earned it on the strength of the products below, evaluated the same way every product on this site is: assessed against feline-health criteria, used with real cats, and judged on merit.
