About Purina Tidy Cats
Tidy Cats traces back to 1947, when inventor Ed Lowe developed an absorbent clay material that cat owners could use in place of ash or sand, and in 1954 he launched it as a dedicated supermarket brand under the Tidy Cat name. The brand went on to introduce Tidy Scoop, one of the category's early clumping clay litters, and has continued to expand into lightweight and natural-clay formulas since. Tidy Cats is now part of Nestlé Purina PetCare, the St. Louis, Missouri-based pet care division of Nestlé.
Its BREEZE system is the brand's most distinct design: rather than a bed of clumping litter, it pairs large anti-tracking pellets in a top tray with an odor-absorbing pad in a drawer below, so urine passes through to the pad instead of sitting in litter on the surface. Independent reviewers including Cats.com have tested the system hands-on, crediting it for strong urine-odor control, minimal dust, and far less litter tracked through the house than clay litter, while noting it works best paired with regular pad changes.

Why we recognized Purina Tidy Cats
The House of Mittens Top Brand recognition isn't paid for and can't be applied for. We award it to the brands whose products consistently stand out in our vet-reviewed category guides. Purina Tidy Cats earned it on the strength of the products below, evaluated the same way every product on this site is: assessed against feline-health criteria, used with real cats, and judged on merit.

Purina Tidy Cats BREEZE Litter Box System
A pellet-and-pad system that keeps urine off the surface a cat stands on: large anti-tracking pellets let liquid pass through to an absorbent pad in a drawer below, which our testing found kept the box strikingly dry and low-odor between changes. The dust-free pellets also track far less through the house than fine clay litter, and daily upkeep is light, just scooping the occasional solid and swapping the pad roughly once a week. It carries a large base of Amazon customer ratings, and the trade-off is committing to proprietary pellet and pad refills rather than any clumping litter.
