About Zodiac
Zodiac describes its business as protecting pets from fleas and ticks for over 40 years. Its US products are sold through Wellmark International, and the brand sits within the Central Garden & Pet family of pet and garden brands. The line is organised by where the problem is: separate ranges for dogs, for cats and for the home, plus a library of articles on how to prevent and treat an infestation.
For cats that spend time outdoors, the Zodiac product we reviewed is the Breakaway Flea and Tick Collar for Cats, and the breakaway release is the reason it is on this page. The easy-release mechanism is designed to reduce the risk of neck injury if the collar catches on a branch or a fence, which is the design priority that matters most for a climbing cat. The collar pairs an adulticide with an insect growth regulator, so it interrupts the flea life cycle rather than only killing the fleas already on the cat, and it states seven months of protection. Its active is tetrachlorvinphos, the listing carries a Proposition 65 warning, and it is meant for cats over twelve weeks and above five pounds, so read the label against your own cat before fitting it.

Why we recognized Zodiac
The House of Mittens Top Brand recognition isn't paid for and can't be applied for. We award it to the brands whose products consistently stand out in our vet-reviewed category guides. Zodiac earned it on the strength of the products below, evaluated the same way every product on this site is: assessed against feline-health criteria, used with real cats, and judged on merit.
Zodiac products we rated highly
Zodiac Breakaway Flea and Tick Collar for Cats, 13"
The breakaway release is the headline feature rather than a footnote, and it is designed to reduce the risk of neck injury if the collar catches. It pairs its adulticide with an insect growth regulator to interrupt the flea life cycle, states seven months of protection, and is described as odourless and non-greasy. Note the label details: tetrachlorvinphos as the active, a Proposition 65 warning on the listing, a minimum of over twelve weeks and above five pounds, and no water resistance claimed.
