About Trail Guard
Trail Guard is the flagship flea and tick spray from Trail Hound Pet Supply Co., a family-run brand started by husband-and-wife team Don and Sara. Their stated reason for starting the company was frustration with the natural pest control aisle as it existed -- watered-down formulas and misleading claims that didn't hold up outdoors -- so they set out to build a plant-powered spray strong enough to actually work rather than just smell like it worked.
The Trail Guard spray is built on a cedarwood and rosemary essential-oil base at a stated 9.5% active ingredient concentration, which the brand positions as several times more concentrated than typical plant-based competitors, and it is designed as a genuine multi-purpose product -- the same bottle is labeled for use on the dog, on people before heading outside, and around entryways and patios. Trail Hound has since expanded the line to a stronger Trail Guard Max formula, a Home Guard insect spray for indoor and outdoor pest control, a Rodent Guard repellent, and a pet grooming range that includes a deep-clean shampoo and a paw protection balm.

Why we recognized Trail Guard
The House of Mittens Top Brand recognition isn't paid for and can't be applied for. We award it to the brands whose products consistently stand out in our vet-reviewed category guides. Trail Guard earned it on the strength of the products below, evaluated the same way every product on this site is: assessed against feline-health criteria, used with real cats, and judged on merit.
Trail Guard products we rated highly
Trail Guard Natural Extra Strength Insect, Flea and Tick Spray for Dogs, Cats, People & Home, 16 oz
Carries a substantially higher concentration of active plant oils than the standard natural sprays we tested, which is the honest answer to why so many natural flea products underperform -- most are simply underdosed. One bottle is labeled to cover the cat, the dog, the people, and the house, which addresses a common failure point in a natural flea plan: treating one animal in the household and not the others. In our review it held its rating alongside more established sprays despite a smaller review base, with owner feedback specifically describing it holding up in outdoor and wooded conditions rather than only indoors, and it uses a cedarwood and rosemary base rather than the citrus or tea tree oils that are harder to defend around cats.
