About PetSafe
PetSafe traces back to 1991, when Knoxville, Tennessee entrepreneur Randy Boyd founded Radio Fence Corporation to sell a wireless pet-containment fence, selling nearly a million dollars of product in its first year. The company grew and renamed itself Radio Systems Corporation as its lineup expanded into training collars, pet doors, and self-cleaning litter and feeding equipment, distributing under brand names including PetSafe, ScoopFree, Drinkwell, Invisible Fence, SportDOG, and Kurgo. In 2020 the company was acquired by international private investment firm Clayton, Dubilier & Rice, and in March 2024 it consolidated its identity, renaming itself PetSafe Brands.
For cat owners, PetSafe is best known for two lines we've tested directly: the ScoopFree self-cleaning litter box, which uses disposable crystal litter trays and a rake mechanism rather than clumping clay, and the Drinkwell pet fountains, one of the few fountain brands veterinarians recognize and recommend from the clinic.
