About kin+kind
kin+kind was founded in 2015 by siblings Thomas and Janine Ling. Thomas left a decade-long career as a corporate lawyer to return to a childhood interest in animals and natural remedies, while Janine had already spent years running her own pet store and, after her dog developed skin issues, began formulating her own natural blends to treat them. The company is based in New York, where products are still formulated, blended, and shipped in-house at a USDA-certified workshop by employees paid a living wage, rather than through a third-party contract manufacturer.
The brand's flea and tick line, which includes the cat and dog coat spray in our review, is built on essential-oil actives -- peppermint, cedarwood, and rosemary -- rather than conventional insecticides, and carries USDA Biobased certification along with Leaping Bunny cruelty-free certification. Its dietary supplements are certified USDA organic. Beyond flea care, kin+kind's cat-specific range covers shampoos and conditioners, ear and skin care, waterless coat sprays and foams, and a bundled Kitty Kit for at-home grooming.

Why we recognized kin+kind
The House of Mittens Top Brand recognition isn't paid for and can't be applied for. We award it to the brands whose products consistently stand out in our vet-reviewed category guides. kin+kind earned it on the strength of the products below, evaluated the same way every product on this site is: assessed against feline-health criteria, used with real cats, and judged on merit.
kin+kind products we rated highly
kin+kind Natural Flea and Tick Prevention for Dogs & Cats, Non-Greasy Coat Spray, Lemongrass, 12 fl oz
Formulated as a daily repellent rather than an outbreak killer, which is a realistic role for a plant-based product and one it fills well -- the non-greasy finish means it doesn't leave a short-haired cat's coat looking damp or clumped the way heavier oil-based sprays can. It is vet-formulated with essential oil concentrations set for daily application and independently certified for its biobased content, and it carries nearly a thousand reviews at a consistent 4.2-star rating in our research, a stronger evidence base than most boutique natural sprays in this category.
